MINIMUM AND AVERAGE SALARY IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC

Salaries in the Czech Republic are normally stated in Czech koruna and quoted as gross pay. A realistic assessment of an offer should include the region, the industry, employee deductions and local housing costs, not just the headline figure. This is particularly important when planning work in the Czech Republic.

Minimum wage and guaranteed salary levels

From 1 January 2026, the statutory minimum wage in the Czech Republic is CZK 22,400 per month for a standard 40-hour working week, or CZK 134.40 per hour. Using the European Central Bank reference rate, this is equivalent to €926 per month and €5.56 per hour. Czech koruna remain the contractual and payroll currency.

Employees paid under the public-service and public-administration pay system are also covered by guaranteed salary levels. These floors depend on the complexity of work and do not replace a higher contractual, collective-agreement or tariff rate.

Work group Minimum hourly rate Minimum monthly rate
Group 1 CZK 134.40 CZK 22,400
Group 2 CZK 161.30 CZK 26,880
Group 3 CZK 188.20 CZK 31,360
Group 4 CZK 215.10 CZK 35,840

IMPORTANT

The guaranteed levels in the table apply to the public-service and public-administration pay system. In the private sector, the statutory minimum wage is the general legal floor, while the actual rate can be higher under a contract or collective agreement.

For part-time work, the monthly minimum is reduced in proportion to contracted hours. Employees on shorter standard weekly schedules, including certain shift arrangements, need to check the corresponding hourly minimum.

Average salary in the Czech Republic

According to preliminary data from the Czech Statistical Office, the average gross monthly wage in the national economy was CZK 51,966 per full-time equivalent employee in the second quarter of 2026. That converts to €2,148 using the ECB reference rate.

The average includes overtime pay, bonuses and wage compensation. It is not the amount received by a typical worker, and it is not net pay. Higher earnings in Prague, finance, technology and specialist professional services raise the national average considerably.

The Czech Statistical Office is temporarily not publishing current quarterly median-wage figures because the previous source of model data ended with the 2025 reference year and the new reporting system is still being checked. It is better to leave the median out than present an older figure as if it described 2026.

Sector shortages can influence the bargaining position of qualified applicants, but they do not guarantee a particular salary. The current list of shortage occupations in the Czech Republic is a useful complement to an individual vacancy and its stated terms.

Prague’s higher average wage does not automatically produce a stronger monthly budget. Rent, deposits, commuting and daily spending can absorb a substantial part of the difference. That trade-off matters particularly for people considering work in Prague rather than a role in another Czech region.

Industry averages are not salary scales. A junior technician, an experienced developer and a department manager in the same industry may earn very different amounts. The country overview for the Czech Republic can help place a job offer alongside broader relocation factors.

Taxes, take-home pay and living costs

Gross Czech salary is reduced by employee social-security and health-insurance contributions, as well as income-tax advances. Final take-home pay can also depend on tax credits, children, household circumstances and the employee declaration filed with the employer. The same gross salary does not always result in the same net amount.

Use the net salary calculator to estimate take-home pay for a particular offer. It is a planning tool rather than a substitute for the employer’s payroll calculation.

NOTE

Employment under a standard contract, DPP or DPČ agreement, and self-employment as an OSVČ operate under different contribution and tax rules. A net-salary calculation for an employee should not be applied to self-employment income.

Before relocating, include travel, the rental deposit, initial accommodation and a reserve for unexpected expenses in the savings calculator. Rent, healthcare, transport and everyday settlement costs are equally important when planning life in the Czech Republic.

For a wider decision, the salary comparison tool can help compare the Czech Republic with another destination on the same basis.
